Caring for Uŋcí Mak̇a, Grandmother Earth, is at the heart of what the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community (SMSC) strives for—now and for future generations. Whether it is restoring prairies, forests, and wetlands, protecting our aquifers, or encouraging native plants, animals, and insects to make our lands their home, the tribe employs multiple land stewardship programs to help fulfill this mission of being a good steward of the earth.
Composting reduces organic waste in landfills, resulting in fewer greenhouse gas emissions. Using compost helps amend depleted soil and restore soil health, which helps support plant and animal communities. We are dedicated to serving our members, supporting other tribes and organizations across the globe, creating strong partnerships, and protecting our natural resources for everyone to enjoy. NativeGreen helps foster a healthy community, environment, and local economy.
