Dustin Montey

Dustin Montey
Dustin has been working with the SMSC Organics Recycling Facility since 2014. With over ten years at the facility, his previous roles include Assistant Manager, Lead Biomass Processing Technician, and Biomass Processing Technician. Dustin currently serves on the Minnesota Composting Council’s Board of Directors and holds a professional certification as a Certified Compost Operations Manager (CCOM). In his position, Dustin is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the facility, including compost operations, colored mulch production, off-site wood grinding, sales, and delivery of products. Dustin was instrumental in researching and planning the expansion of the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community’s composting operations. Prior to working for the SMSC, Dustin served five years in the Marine Corps. In his free time, Dustin enjoys traveling, spending time outdoors, watching football and hockey, and spending time with his kids.

Erin Skelly

Erin Skelly
Erin Skelly joined the SMSC Organics Recycling Facility in 2017 as the Environmental Compliance Technician and is currently working as the facility’s Operations Manager. Erin holds a professional certification as a Certified Compost Operations Manager (CCOM) as well as a B.S. Degree in Environmental Science. In her role, she is responsible for managing composting operations, as well as overseeing the yard operations and compliance teams. Erin has in-depth experience monitoring all aspects of the composting process, inspecting and evaluating incoming material, working with haulers to reduce contamination, and ensuring high-quality finished products. Erin has led the charge in implementing stricter contamination thresholds and improving overall product quality over the past several years. In her free time, Erin enjoys gardening, hiking, visiting national parks, and caring for her animals.

Jenny Appenzeller

Jenny Appenzeller
Jenny joined the SMSC Organics Recycling Facility in 2021 as the Office Coordinator and is currently the Customer Service and Accounting Supervisor. Jenny has 14 years of waste industry experience, a B.S. in Marketing, and an M.S. in Accounting (MSA). In her role, Jenny is responsible for customer service, facility accounting, scheduling deliveries, and overseeing the scale operations. Jenny’s favorite part of her job is the variety; no two days are the same! In her spare time, Jenny enjoys spoiling her nieces, traveling—mostly to Vegas, and live music.

Jared Hubers

Jared Hubers
Jared joined the facility as an Operations Supervisor in 2024. Since joining the team he has seen major growth in the operation in a short amount of time. Jared is responsible for a crew of operators and oversees daily operations and yard production. Some of his favorite things about the job include learning about the process of how composting works and making different types of product with the finished material! In Jared’s free time he enjoys winter activities like skiing and snowmobiling, traveling with his daughters for their sporting events, and helping out on the family farm.

Dave Plym

Dave Plym
Dave started with SMSC Organics Recycling Facility in 2024 as the second shift operations supervisor. Dave is responsible for a crew of operators and supervises daily operations. Dave specializes in the food waste de-packaging area and enjoys continuing to learn all day-to-day operations. Dave also works to ensure deliveries are completed in an efficient and timely fashion. In his free time, he is all about family and enjoys spending time with his wife, kids and grandchildren.

Jon Zerwas

Jon Zerwas
Jon started with the SMSC Organics Recycling Facility in 2013 as a Biomass Processing Technician and now works as the facility’s Equipment Specialist. In his role, Jon manages our offsite wood grinding operations and ensures all equipment is running efficiently. Since starting with the SMSC, Jon has trained on all composting equipment and specializes in maintaining and repairing the site’s machines. One of the highlights of his job is the knowledge that waste is being diverted from the landfill and turned into a beneficial product. In Jon’s free time, he likes to ice fish, snowmobile, watch dirt track racing, and camp with his family.
